Troubleshooting Maintenance Issues
Television and MovieLink
Various TV brands are used throughout the hotel, including Masuda, Samsung, LG, and Sharp. Here are some common issues and their solutions:
- "I only have one TV channel" - The TV/MovieLink sensor is likely misplaced. Adjust its position.
- "My screen is black and won't change channel" - The MovieLink power source might be unplugged (check for plugged-in devices). Alternatively, the A/V cord may be unplugged or loose.
- "My remote won't turn my TV on/off or change volume" - The remote might be incorrect for the TV brand. Each TV has a calibrated remote. MovieLink functions will still work, but TV functions won't. LG and Sharp remotes are labeled; Masuda and Samsung remotes are marked with "A" or "B" (check the back or under the battery).
- "I can't access movies... it says the movie is always in use" - The MovieLink box needs replacement and recalibration.
- "My remote doesn't work well from far away" - The battery might be low, the MovieLink sensor may have moved, or the MovieLink receiver might need replacing.
Television and Movie Operation
Familiarise yourself with the remote control and refer to on-screen instructions.
Note:
Movie titles are not displayed on hotel bills, but the charge is added automatically upon pressing the pay/confirm key.
Basic Operating Instructions
- Switch on Television: Press the POWER or ON/OFF key.
- To Watch Television: Press the TV/Radio key, then use Channel UP/DOWN or the numerical keypad.
- Volume Control: Adjust volume with the volume up/down keys.
- Hotel Information: Follow on-screen instructions to access hotel information (if available).
- Menu Button: Press "Menu" for on-screen instructions or to display the "Main Menu."
- Messages: When the TV light flashes, follow on-screen instructions to view messages. Use Channel UP/DOWN or the "C" key to navigate messages.
- Purchasing On-Demand Movies/Adult Content: Press the MOVIE or "A" key and follow on-screen instructions.
MovieLink Boxes
The MovieLink box receives signals from video players and the MovieLink system. It has 5 plugs: main power, 2 A/V cords (for TV connection), MovieLink receiver, and signal cord.
Changing a MovieLink Box
- Use the "Maintenance" remote (with the extra button above volume controls).
- Press the extra button to access the maintenance screen for calibration.
- Select option [A].
- Enter the room number using Channel UP/DOWN and "OK."
- Observe "RX" receiver movement and the receiver number counting up (2-way communication attempt). This may take 3-4 minutes. If longer, try another box.
- Once "loading pages" appears, wait approximately 30 seconds.
- After "2-way complete," movies should be accessible. Select the movie promptly as some rooms cancel 2-way quickly.
Spare MovieLink items are in the front desk cupboard or maintenance office.
Air Conditioning & Heating
In-room Settings
- 0 = Outside air temperature
- * = Chilled air
- 1-5 = Increasing temperature, with 5 being the warmest
Boilers - Start-Up Procedure
Boilers provide hot water. The burner might go out due to flint failure, power loss, or strong winds. This procedure ensures a swift restart.
- Locate the boilers: Exit the 17th floor onto the Pool Deck, turn right, go past the sauna, and up the stairs (use GMK key for the locked gate). Turn left at the walkway's end; boilers are in front, switches on the right wall.
- If the boiler is out:
- Turn off the switch.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Turn the switch back on.
- If it doesn't restart, lift off the far panel on the left or right of the boiler.
- Press the small RED reset button.
- Repeat from step 1.
A successful restart is indicated by a "whoommpphhh" noise. If it fails twice, contact the Maintenance Manager.
Air Conditioning - Rooftop
Two A/C units run constantly; the third activates at a certain temperature. They are located in the same room as the boilers (access instructions above).
The first motor (continuous) requires Maintenance if there's an issue. The second's panel has gauges and an on/off switch. Don't turn it on unless the temperature exceeds the preset (ask Maintenance for the setting).
Resetting the Compressor
- Press the three buttons on the panel in any order.
- If it doesn't start, contact the Maintenance Manager.
Air Conditioning - Public Areas (3rd Floor Carpark)
The A/C control room is on the third floor of the car park. Access it via the small wooden door on the left at the ramp's top (use the "main - green key"). Climb down the ladder, turn right. The panel has 10 switches:
- Cubicle Isolator (DO NOT TURN OFF)
- Public Area Supply Fan
- Condenser Pump No 2
- Cooling Tower No 2
- Condensing Unit
- Car park Vent Fans No 1 (DO NOT TURN OFF)
- Car park Vent Fans No 2 (DO NOT TURN OFF)
- Toilet Exhaust Fans - System No 4 (DO NOT TURN OFF)
- Toilet Exhaust Fans - System No 5 (DO NOT TURN OFF)
- Toilet Exhaust Fans - System No 6 (DO NOT TURN OFF)
Operation
Extractor Fans: Switch 2 to AUTO (never MANUAL).
Air Conditioning: Switches 3, 4, & 5 to AUTO.
Pump Room (Rarely Needed)
The pump room supplies water, including for fire pumps. Pump issues can affect boilers and firefighting capabilities.
The pump room (with a "Fire Pump" sign) is in the basement near the northern Fire exit.
Lower Section Pumps
- Maintain fire pump pressure.
- Closest pump is electric (primary).
- The other is diesel (backup for power outages).
- Operate when hoses are used or pressure drops.
- Reset switch is on the east wall near the electric pump.
- KEEP SWITCHES ON AUTO. Manual is only for fire brigade testing.
Upper Level Pumps
- Feed the rooftop makeup tank, which supplies the boilers.
- Pump shutdown can lead to boiler overheating.
- Operating switches are on the upper level, east wall.
- KEEP SWITCHES ON AUTO. Manual is only for testing.
